Thomas S. Hatsukami, MD, FACS

Dr. Hatsukami is a Professor of Vascular Surgery at the University of Washington. He received his BA from Stanford University (1978), and MD from the University of California, Los Angeles. Following his general and vascular surgery training at the University of Washington, he worked with Dr. D. Eugene Strandness as a research fellow. Dr. Hatsukami is currently involved in the following research on high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging of atherosclerosis:

1. Validation of novel MRI techniques

2. Prospective studies testing of the hypothesis that MRI can identify high-risk plaque features that are associated with plaque progression and the subsequent development of thrombo-embolic complications

3. Examination of genetic risk factors associated with the progression of atherosclerosis, as measured with MRI methods

4. Clinical trials quantifying plaque progression/regression in response to pharmacological therapy
