The Quantitative Breast Imaging (QBI) group is a multidisciplinary team with imaging scientists, bioengineers, MR physicists and radiologists, and has close collaborations with UW clinicians including surgeons, oncologists and pathologists as well as basic scientists at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The QBI group primarily focused on development and testing of new MRI acquisitions and quantitative image analysis techniques for characterizing breast cancer. The goals of their research are to better identify and diagnose breast lesions and to monitor treatment response in patients undergoing chemotherapy.  MRI techniques currently under development include dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE), diffusion tensor MRI (DTI), and spectroscopy (MRS). Other advanced imaging modalities under investigation include positron emission tomography (PET), tomosynthesis, and automated whole breast ultrasound.
