You have experienced an allergic-like or hypersensitivity reaction to contrast medium, which may also be called X-ray dye, CT dye, and MR contrast.

A future injection of contrast medium could result in a more serious or rarely, even a FATAL reaction.

 For Your Future Safety

Inform your doctor(s), any other health care providers, and anyone who schedules an appointment for you, that you had a reaction to a contrast agent.

  • Having a reaction does not mean you should never have a contrast injection in the future. It does mean that special precautions and considerations are needed if you have an exam that uses contrast in the future. For example, you will likely be given medicine to take ahead of time.
  • Think about getting medic alert jewelry to wear. A medic alert bracelet or necklace alerts emergency medical workers about your situation.
