BENEFITS

The Department of Radiology provides $6000 over four years for residents to use for educational materials (including books, CDs or DVDs, ABR fees, license fees and computer equipment) or to attend a conference.  In addition, tuition for the four-week Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) course is paid by the department.

Residents who present a research project at a national meeting will receive up to $1000 in support to attend the meeting.

The medical center provides a choice of seven medical plans, as well as dental and life insurance for the residents and their families. The university helps residents save for retirement by providing 100% matching funds to the resident’s own contributions. Both the UW and the resident’s contributions are immediately vested, and the plan is 100% portable when the resident leaves the UW.

Radiology residents have dedicated libraries at the UW and Harborview Medical Centers. Computers, educational CD-roms and DVDs, journals, and books are available for use.

The department annually holds a welcome reception for residents, a summer resident barbecue, a holiday party, and a year-end banquet. In addition, the department provides $4000 per year to a resident social fund. Many social activities, including family picnics and dinners, are planned by the residents and financed by this fund.

Each year the residents are excused from clinical service to take part in the annual Ski Day at Stevens Pass. The department pays for bus transportation and food throughout the day, and even non-skiers are encouraged to pass a pleasant day in the mountains.
