Currently, the VA MRI/CT/US service is an exclusively R2 level experience. Support includes one Body Imaging Fellow and the Body Imaging Attending of the day. The service is busy. The broad case exposure reflects the diverse inpatient and outpatient conditions of the VA patient population.
Medical Knowledge Objectives:
1. The resident will be introduced to and participate in a breadth of techniques and protocols as they apply to the diagnosis of conditions in the chest, abdomen, pelvis and musculoskeletal system.
2. Their primary concentration will focus on learning the fundamentals of US physics, image formation and image interpretation.
3. The resident is expected to prepare at least two cases for presentation at Interesting Case Conference, which occurs during the final week of the rotation.
Technical Skills Objectives
1. The resident will begin building proficiency in US scanning technique for standard examinations of the abdomen, pelvis, thyroid and scrotum.
2. The resident will perform CT and ultrasound guided biopsies of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis under the supervision of an attending.
