Goals and Objectives - Chest

Educational Goals and Objectives of the University of Washington

Diagnostic Radiology Residency Training
Thoracic Radiology

First rotation

The resident will learn the rudiments of thoracic anatomy on plain radiographs and on CT scans and begin to correlate the different anatomic depictions. The resident will learn the vocabulary used to report findings and will learn how to compose a report that is well-organized and concise and that addresses the needs of the referring physician. The resident will begin to present cases at the four daily conferences with internists. In reporting and in presenting, the resident will receive frequent and constructive feedback from the attending radiologists.

Second and subsequent rotations

The resident will gradually take over the organization of the flow of the work of film reading and conference presentation. The resident will lead the review of the cases with the attending radiologists.

The resident will add to and refine his or her knowledge of normal and variant thoracic anatomy and of thoracic pathology.

The emphasis in reporting and presenting will be on integrating radiographic findings with the other clinical information and thereby extracting maximum utility from the radiographs for the benefit of the referring physician.
