Residents maintain individual logs that document their participation in interventional and complex diagnostic procedures. This log is maintained for review by the program director and section heads.
Initial Rotation (Years I, II):
Medical Knowledge and Technical Skills Objectives:
1. The resident will be introduced to basic procedures in angiography and interventional radiology.
2. Skills to be stressed include vascular access, drainage of fluid collections, stricture dilation and stent placement, diagnostic angiography filming rates, contrast selection and volumes, and management of patients prior to and following procedures. Correlation will be made with alternative noninvasive modalities. Case review of diagnostic and congenital heart disease will be stressed.
Patient Care Objectives:
1. The resident will be competent in the work-up of a patient including indications and contraindications for procedures.
Advanced Rotation (Years III, IV):
Medical Knowledge and Technical Skills Objectives:
1. The resident will become competent in performance and
interpretation of all commonly performed angiography and interventional
procedures.
2. Residents will also become familiar with MRA, duplex and CTA.
3. Skills in intervention, including stents, angioplasty, fluid drainage, embolization, filters, lysis and atherectomy will be stressed.
