Research activities in the UW VIR section

Along with clinical service and teaching, research constitutes one of the key components in the academic IR section at UW radiology. Currently, several research activities and interests, on both clinical practices and innovative technical developments, are on going in our IR section. These research activities and interests enable IR faculty members to establish national and international collaborations with multidisciplinary expertise from different fields, including biomedical engineering, molecular biology, pathology, nanotechnology, applied physics on MR and ultrasound as well as optics, electronic engineering, chemistry, and computer sciences. The new concept, “image-guided bio-molecular interventions,” emphasizes the combination of interventional therapies with molecular-cellular imaging, which has already opened new avenues to extend the role of interventional radiology in prompt prevention, early diagnosis, and efficient treatment of different diseases.

All members of UW imaging family, including fellows, residents, as well as graduates and undergraduates, are encouraged to participate in our currently on-going research projects and interests in IR section.
