Case 31 Answer 4
Phylloides Tumors tend to grow rapidly and recur locally. About 10% are malignant. They must be excised with at least a 1 cm margin. Malignant phylloides tumors are treated like sarcomas, not breast cancer. They do not require axillary lymph node dissection. Radiation has not been shown to improve survival. The most likely site of distant metastasis is the lung. Phylloides tumors tend to present in younger women as large rapidly growing palpable masses. They are also referred to as Phyllodes tumors (the i is optional!)
