About us
The Emergency Radiology section at Harborview Medical Center serves one of the busiest emergency departments in the Pacific Northwest, and is the only Level I adult and pediatric trauma center and regional burn center serving Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. As a center of excellence in providing emergency radiology services, the section has very active roles in continuing medical education, resident and fellowship training, research, and clinical practice.
Facilities:
ER Radiology is located at the core of the emergency room at HMC, allowing for rapid transit of patients from triage areas into radiology, and direct communication with our clinical colleagues. The department is equipped with
Three GE 16 detector row CT scanners, one of which is equipped with retrospective cardiac gating. One dedicated "trauma" CT scanner is in the ER.
One GE 1.5T MRI Unit.
One Siemens 3T MRI with Trio TIM.
Three Philips iU22 Ultrasound Machines
One Philips HD11 Ultrasound Machine
One Philips HD3 Portable Ultrasound.
Two GE Logiq Book Portable Ultrasound Machines.
Three GE Advantage Windows Post-Processing Workstations, including one in the Emergency Radiology Area.
New 3D Digital Subtraction Angiography Units and New Digital Fluoroscopy Units.
GE Centricity PACS.
All dictation is near-instantaneous, utilizing Commissure RadWhere electronic voice recognition.
Faculty:
The ER faculty are internationally recognized experts in the fields of emergency radiology and evidence based imaging, and have many active research projects underway. ER attendings are all fellowship trained, with a range of subspecialty interests in emergency radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, body imaging, and spinal imaging. In addition, two PA faculty perform duties in the ER.
About the Harborview Medical Center Trauma Service:
Harborview Medical Center provides trauma care to adults and children, serving as the state's only Level I adult and pediatric trauma center. As the only such facility in a four-state region (Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho), Harborview is ready around the clock for any kind of emergency.
The state's trauma system, the result of years of careful planning, is designed to ensure that every injured patient has the access to the right hospital as soon as possible. Harborview's Emergency Department sees more than 80,000 patients each year, with about 6000 polytrauma patients per year.
